The Jewish Museum in Prague is one of the oldest Jewish museums in Europe, founded in 1906. It was founded by the historian and Hebraist Salomon Hugo Lieben and a representative of the Czech-Jewish movement, the magistrate August Stein. The basis of its collection was made up of objects from synagogues and prayer rooms that had been destroyed as a result of the liquidation of the Prague Jewish ghetto.
